Western Mass 'Running Gun Battle' Leaves Numerous Buildings, Vehicles Damaged, Police Say

A running gunfight between four men in a city street in Western Massachusetts left numerous buildings and cars with bullet holes.

The incident took place in Hampden County around 4:45 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 29, in Holyoke on Farnum Drive.

According to Captain Matthew F. Moriarty of the Holyoke Police Department, officers responded to the area after received numerous reports of shots being fired.

Officers arrived on the scene and began to search the area for injured parties, damaged property, and evidence of the shots fired, he said.

As officers canvased the area witnesses described a “running gunfight” involving four people with each shoting at the other, Moriarty said.

"Currently no injuries have been reported," Moriarty said. "Several vehicles and buildings were damaged by gunfire."

The investigation is ongoing.
